I’ve been talking about quite a few Summer Reading Programs lately in which you must either check in weekly or turn in a reading log/journal to complete. Well this program is much different and may be more convenient since it is an online program. The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge can be accessed via smartphone, computer or on a tablet. The easiest way to log minutes is to download Scholastic Reading Timer in the Apple and Android app stores. The program is on now and will be going on until September 5, 2014. The program is completely free for kids and the site is designed for use by children and is completely safe. Your child will log his/her minutes to receive virtual rewards and will help set the world record for summer reading. Also the site offers more than just reading! There are games, videos, and sweepstakes.
This program is recommended for kindergarten(about 5 years old) to 8th graders (about 14 years old). If you have younger ones you can still use the Reading Timer App to log all of the minutes spent reading with them. Also the scholastic site has so many other resources. There are free printables and activities divided up by age groups, with the youngest being 0-2 years. There are plenty of resources to help with making school a success for your child. This is just a small amount of what is offered through scholastic.com For mobile learning be sure to check out all of Scholastics apps for Apple or Android devices. Connect with other parents and stay updated with Scholastic on Facebook through Scholastic Parents.
Make reading fun!
