Southern California Great Wolf Lodge Grand Opening!

The Great Wolf Lodge here in Southern California will be open very soon! The Grand Opening is set for March 4th, but you can already book your stay now. I spoke about this amazing new vacation spot back in October when the announcement about its opening was made and now that day is here.

GWL is a vacation destination with themed rooms, activities like glow in the dark mini golf and mini spa, and of course it’s main feature the water park. Entrance to the water park along with character experiences are included with your stay. Great Wolf Lodge Indoor Waterpark

Let’s not forget that the GWL is in Orange County. That means it is close to Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, and the beach. Also if your up for a drive down to San Diego there is the World Famous San Diego Zoo, the museums at Balboa Park, Sea World and towards Los Angeles there is Universal Studios Hollywood and many great museums as well.

It’s Halloween Time at the Parks!

From Disneyland to Knotts and from Sea World to Legoland its Halloween Time at the Parks. There is Trick or Treating, special events, holiday decor and more! Each Amusement Park has their own unique take on this spooky fun season. So here is what is going on at many Southern California based Amusement Parks.

Disneyland

Disneyland transforms much of the park for each holiday season and Halloween time is no exception. There is holiday decor through out the park and limited time themed treats and merchandise. The Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain also take on the Halloween fun. The Haunted Mansion has been taken over by Jack Skellington and his friends much like the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. While Space Mountain takes you on an out of this world ghostly experience. And on select nights you can party and trick-or-treat with Mickey and his Friends during Mickey’s Halloween Party. This is a separate ticketed event that encourages guests to come dressed up and trick-or-treat through out the park, check out ghoulishly fun live entertainment, see Mickey and his Friends dressed up in their costumes.

Trick or Treat throughout Ghost Town or join the costume contest and dance party in Camp Snoopy. Bug out with slimy, slithery, crawlerly creatures at the Creepy Crawler Cabin. Or check out the whole Gang in “The Monsters are Coming, Charlie Brown” at the Camp Snoopy Theatre. All this spooky fun is included with general admission.

Legoland

Vampires, Witches and other ghouls have taken over the park! The park is decorated for the holiday and there are special trick-or-treat trails when you join the fun of Party Nights. On Friday and Saturday nights join in on a bricktastic Halloween party during Legoland’s Brick-or-Treat. Enjoy live entertainment, special treat stations, costume contests, dancing and more. The party has expanded this year to Heartlake City and Fun Town. There are still stations throughout SEA LIFE Aquarium as well as Wanda’s Jelly Fish Disco where you can jump and jive the night away. There are two ticket options; choose from All Day with Party Nights or Party Nights only (which is perfect for those looking for family fun on a budget). Brick-or-Treat is a great Halloween time event for the whole family.

Sea World

Sea World’s Halloween Spooktacular is going on every weekend until November 1st. Kids can come dressed up and trick or treat throughout the park. Trick or treating starts at 11am on event days. Stop by the Mermaid’s Grotto to meet and take a picture with some enchanting Mermaids. Play in the new kinetic sand bar or join the fun at the dance party hosted by DJ Cotton Candy. All images courtesy of The Walt Disney Company

All images courtesy of The Walt Disney Company

There is a reason D23 is called the ultimate Disney fan experience and with all the big news coming from the Expo anyone can see why. Disney’s D23 Expo has been going on this weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center just blocks from the Disneyland Resort. Fans from all over flock to see memoribila, shop exclusive merchandise and to be the first to catch glimpses of upcoming films and projects. And there has been so much talk and speculation lately about Disney parks expansions that D23 Expo was just the place for big news reveals. Here is some of the big details that has been released at D23.

*Now there is a lot of Star Wars news coming out right now so I will be dedicating a post to just that shortly.*

Movie Announcements

Pixar and Disney Animation Upcoming Films

Pixar and Disney Animation have announced a full slat of upcoming projects and have given more details on many known films that are coming soon. So here are the details straight from D23.

The Good Dinosaur

Disney•Pixars The Good Dinosaur
The Good Dinosaur focus’ on Arlo an Apatosaurus who ends up far from home and amoung many imitimadating creatures like the trio of T-Rexes shown at the Expo. The furious threesome are voiced by AJ Buckley, Anna Paquin and Sam Elliot. Look out for this film stomping into theaters November 25, 2015.

Finding Dory and Toy Story 4

Disney•Pixars Finding Dory

As announced by Ellen DeGeneres on her show “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” everyone’s favorite forgetful fish is coming back to the big screen. Finding Dory will bring back Dory and her friends Marlin and Nemo to help her search for answers about her past and where she comes from. The new journey will bring in an array of new characters such as Hank the octopus voiced by Ed O’Neill; Bailey a beluga whale by Ty Burrell; and Destiny a kind-hearted whale shark voiced by Kaitlin Olsen. The film will take place six months after where the first film ended with Dory remembering her family and sets out to find them. Dory and the gang swim into theaters June 17, 2016.

Toy Story 4 plot line was also just announced at D23. This year marks the 20th Anniversary release of the original Toy Story film. The film was such a success that it garnered two sequels which were also greatly received. Now the gang will be back for the fourth installment of the franchise. This time it will be more of a love story focusing on the relationship between Woody and Bo Peep. Woody and Buzz will be setting out to find Bo. Toy Story 4 is slated to hit theaters June 16, 2017.

Coco

This was one of the bigger announcements from Disney•Pixar films. Coco is a previously untitled film about the Mexican celebration of Dia De Los Muertos that now has an official title and story line. This first look during D23 was a diorama shown by director Lee Unkrich and producer Darla Anderson. It was just glimpse of the style and tone of the upcoming film. The story will follow a 12 year old boy named Miguel who sets off a chain reaction of events leading to a generations old mystery. Not much else plot wise was given at this time and the release date is still unknown.

Confirmed Sequels

Pixar Animation confirmed the upcoming sequel The Incredibles 2 as well as Cars 3! Still no word on expected theater dates or plots but now both are confirmed projects.

Moana and more from Disney Animation and also Disney Live Action

Moana and Zootopia both gave a little more information at the Expo. Moana showed early test footage to attendees and gave some details about the story line; which focus’ on a spirited teenager who sails out to fulfill a daring unfinished quest. Along the way she meets Maui(voiced by Dwanyne Johnson) a demi-God who joins her on the action-packed voyage. The adventure sails into theaters November 23, 2016. Zootopia (which hits the big screen March 4, 2016) announced that Grammy-winning singer Shakira will voice Gazelle and also perform an original song for the film. Disney Animations next feature film will be called Gigantic which is a new take on the “Jake and the Beanstalk” story. This version will be about a Jack discovering a world of giants. He comes up with a plan to help Inma; a 60-foot-tall 11 year-old girl, get back home.

Now for Disney’s Live Action films. Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War will pick up right where Age of Ultron left off. Captain America will lead the new team of Avengers in dealing with a new villain and restrictions put upon them due to collateral damage from another incident. The film hits theaters May 6, 2016. Also coming from Marvel is Doctor Strange which is currently in pre-production. Attendees were treated to a glimpse of concept art showing Stange in a red coat and in a more traditional outfit. The film is scheduled for release October 26, 2016.

Here is the line up for Disney’s live action takes on classic films: The Jungle Book – April 15, 2016; Pete’s Dragon – August 12, 2016 and Beauty and the Beast – March 17, 2017. Parks and Resorts: New Lands and Rides

Toy Story Land Concept Art

So much was revealed about Disney Parks expansions at D23. Like I stated above there is just so much Star Wars news that I will be dedicating another post to just that. But there is still so much to share about new Lands and rides coming to the Parks.

Toy Story Land

Disney Hollywood Studios in Florida will be revamping with an 11-acre Toy Story Land. Set in Andy’s Backyard guests will “shrink” down to Buzz and Woody’s size. There will be two new rides(Slinky Dog themed roller coaster and Alien saucers) and an expansion on a current favorite(Toy Story Mania).

Pandora- The World of Avatar

Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be expanding to bring to life the world of Pandora as well as new nighttime experiences. The after dark fun will included an expanded nighttime adventure on the current Kilimanjaro Safari and a new never seen before “Rivers of Light” magical show that combines live music, floating lanterns and water screens. The Pandora expansion will emerse guests into the World of Avatar with floating mountains, flying creatures, and a bioluminescent forest. The new attraction Avatar- Flight of Passage will sore guests over the alien world.

Soarin’ Around the World

Epcot in Florida and Disney California Adventure will be updating to a new high flying journey to man-made monuments and breathtaking natural wonders around the world.

This is just a collecting of the many announcements that have come from this amazing Expo. I know I am looking forward to many more details to come and to see some of these reveals come to life.
