Hello 2015

Hello 2015 | Cruzin Mama

Hello 2015

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a great 2014 and are having so far a nice start to 2015. This last year like many before had it’s highs and it lows. I always try to be a positive person so looking back I’m focusing more on the good and bringing that into this year. 2014 was the year I finally decided to start this blog. I am always doing or finding fun and inexpensive events or places to go with my kids. I was having friends or my spouses coworkers ask where I found all these things, so I had been telling him I should blog since I’m already doing all the research anyways and that way everyone can get the info easily. I am so happy with my blog it has some kinks and needs some improvement and even though I thought about stopping I’m glad that I haven’t. I am going to work harder and make improvements this year on it!

So I’m setting a few goals for this year myself and for my blog. I am so excited for a new start and can’t wait for things to grow and change. I will be more committed to blogging and finishing posts. I had so many posts this year that I sat on and ended up not finishing. I will also strive to get information out sooner to make sure others have time to plan to attend. I will also be striving for a healthier self this year. I work out off and on but get lazy and fall into a more unhealthy routine and eating. So this year I plan to be outdoors more and to eat healthier. It’s not a weight loss goal or diet it’s a change so that I can be more involved with my kids and have a better self appreciation.

I am excited and nervous about what this year will bring. But just like 2014 I will focus more on the positive and not give up. I wish everyone a wonderful New Year and with it many blessings of health and happiness. I would love to hear others goals for this year as well, it’d be great to add to my growing list ;)

Goodbye 2014 and Hello 2015!

The Botanic Garden is a great way to see plants from all around the world. There is two interactive areas for kids, so there is plenty for the family to enjoy. On my family’s last visit we barely explored the gardens since we went in the evening. So our next visit we are planning to spend much more time there, especially since the kiddos loved the children’s garden(spent almost our whole visit there!). There are picnic tables available so pack a lunch and enjoy the beauty the Botanic Garden has to offer.

Great San Diego Beaches for Families

image

Happy Labor Day everyone!

Well it’s the unofficial end of Summer, though with this heat we’ve been having it feels like Summer isn’t going away anytime soon. So what better way to cool off on this long weekend than with a trip to the beach. I decided to share some San Diego beaches my family loves to go to. Hope you enjoy!

Coronado Central Beach
There is just something about Coronado Island that makes it one of my favorite San Diego destinations. My kids love the giant bridge you cross to get to the island. Another great way is to park in Sea Port Village and take the ferry (we have yet to do this but it is something we will be planning on doing). There are a few beach spots on the island but my favorite is Central Beach located by Hotel Del Coronado. The Hotel Del creates such a great backdrop for a day at the beach. The sand is perfect for sand castles, there is usually some great works of art up to see. And the waves are usually more mellow so they are perfect for wading and boogie boarding. After the beach it is always great to walk around and check out the local shops and of course the historic Hotel Del. There is free parking all throughout the island, just make sure to watch for any signs stating otherwise.

La Jolla Shores
When most people hear La Jolla Beach they think of La Jolla Cove and about the cliffs, the seals, and the children’s beach. I love to visit there to see all of that, but let’s face it that beach isn’t really a beach for kids to play in the water. Just a little further up the coast line though is La Jolla Shores. My family went here about a month ago and we were pleasantly surprised. The beach was far less crowded than the Cove and the water was so clean! Just make sure when you set up your spot to check which side of the flags you are on. The life guards here are very on top of keeping swimmers and boogie boarders out of the surfing side. There is a free parking lot at this beach with a fairly good amount of spaces.

Del Mar Powerhouse Park and Beach
All of Del Mar is just gorgeous. My family loves to walk all the shops and picnic at Seagrove Park and it’s picturesque view of the ocean. Just down the slope from Seagrove Park is Powerhouse Park and Beach. Powerhouse Park has a great little playground that is hidden from the main road. This is also a great area to watch the commuter trains go by. Just steps down from the playground is the beach. Just like the park this beach is a little more secluded so it’s usually not as crowded as most So-Cal beaches. Parking can be a little bit tricker here but there is a lot nearby though you do have to pay but it’s  a pretty reasonable rate.

South Ponto Beach
South Ponto Beach is a little hidden gem in Carlsbad. Most Carlsbad beach goers haven’t even heard of this beach or just catch a glimpse of it on a drive down the coast. So it is another less populated beach. We recently had a day out here and were actually hanging out right next to a Pro-Skateboarder and his family.  The waves here were perfect for my little beginning boogie boarder. My son had a blast flying his kite and the sand was perfect near the shore for building sand castles. I will say that when making your way towards the beach there is a patch of rocky sand between the soft sand but it really didn’t bother us at all. The northern parking lot does charge a fee to park there but a little south is another lot that is free but that lot is sand and not paved. I parked in the free lot with my car no problem and it’s a VW wagon.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Keep a look out for more posts about more great beaches in San Diego and Orange County.

The City of Murrieta’s first Movie in the Park will be tomorrow August 9th at 6pm. The featured movie for tomorrow is the family classic The Karate Kid. Everyone is encouraged to arrive early to participate in pre-movie activities. Why not be apart of a movie while at the event! A documentary is being made about Oscar winning Director John Avildsen who of course directed the Karate Kid. The documentary crew will be filming interviews with some lucky attendees and will be filming all attendees doing a group “crane kick” just like the one used by the Karate Kid. This is a can’t miss event so grab a blanket and some popcorn and enjoy the show.

The City of Murrieta will be hosting one more movie in the park on August 16th. They will be showing the Lego Movie. Movie in the Park is held at Cal Oaks Sports Park with pre-movie events starting at 6pm.

Summer Movie Deals

School is almost out which means it’s time to plan summer activities. An activity my kids love to do is to go see a movie. There’s just something about seeing a movie on the big screen, versus renting, as a reward for doing great in school this year. Plus with the heat it’s nice to relax in the air conditioned theater. What makes this all even better is the deals theaters are offering. So here are some deals for the movies this summer.

Enjoy the show!
