The 1st Saturday of every month Home Depot offers a FREE workshop for kids. The workshops are geared toward children ages 5-12 and run from 9am to Noon. In the workshop kids build a craft such as a birdhouse, race car, or pencil holder. The builds teach children how to use some basic tools and how to following instructions. If it is your child’s first workshop your child will receive their own Home Depot apron and a pin for completing the project (they continue to receive a pin after completion of each workshop attended). Home Depot does ask you to register online for the workshop so they can have enough materials. Click on the link provided to register for the next Kids Workshop.

Both of my kiddos have had a blast at the workshops. The employees are always so cheerful and so hopeful. They love to build and are always so proud of the work they do. My son especially loves when he gets to build a “toy” such as a airplane or race car. He’ll walk around the store after the build showing off what he helped build. These workshops are really a great FREE activity for kids.

May’s Kid Workshop

May’s Kids Workshop is a project perfect for Mother’s Day. Your child/children will learn how to build a Picket Fence Photo Frame, which can make a great Mother’s Day Gift.

Have fun building!

She loved the last time there was a burger class so it’s safe to say I will be signing her up for the next one!

This is one of my favorite events to post about. I make it a point to set aside time for my daughter to attend at least one of these classes a month and she absolutely loves them! Weekend Events: San Elijo Lagoon Halloween Event

image

San Elijo Lagoon Not-So-Scary Estuary

This Saturday October 18th and Sunday the 19th the Family Discovery Days at the San Elijo Lagoon will be hosting a Not-So-Scary Estuary. This is a FREE event for the whole family to enjoy. The fun is from 1pm – 4pm both days. There will be crafts, hands on activities, trick-or-treating, a giant spider web, and live animal presentations. This is a great chance to check out the San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center and to get to know more about it’s not-so-scary inhabitants. Be sure to come in your costumes as there will be a costume contest going on.

I love finding events for my kids to wear their Halloween costumes as much as possible. I have not taken my family to the San Elijo Lagoon yet but we have gone to it’s neighboring Batiquitos Lagoon and had a wonderful time walking the trails and learning about the lagoon and it’s inhabitants. The San Elijo Lagoon should be just as fun and I love anything Halloween so it’s a win/win for me.

Below is the event flyer with full event details. Have a haunting good time exploring the lagoon!

Having your children help in meal preparation helps them in making healthier choices and with them being less picky eaters. My local Williams-Sonoma has been so great with really letting all the kids attending the classes get to be hands on. Also this month there will be a few special events at Williams-Sonoma in support for NO Kid Hungry.

Share Our Strength NO Kid Hungry is an organization working to stomp out hunger in America for kids who are going without food. This cause hits very close to home for me, my family has had many struggles over the years. At points we have had trouble affording to feed ourselves. I am so thankful for programs out there to help those who are truly in need. No child should ever have to go hungry. I highly recommend checking out one of these events, your child will experience a fun class while helping out another child in need.

FREE History Center Entrance

image

Every Sunday the little red building next Kohl’s here in Temecula opens it’s doors and welcomes all take a step back in time. This great little History Center is FREE for all to explore. The workers there are so friendly, on our recent visit one lady walked with us through the building and explained the history of many objects to my very curious 7 year old. It is always nice to learn the history of the area you live in.

This History Center is only open on Sundays from Noon to 5pm. There are quite a few hands on exhibits which is great for little ones, but still be mindful these are historical items. If you wish to have a group tour please schedule an appointment at info@vailranch.org  If you are in the area try and stop by this wonderful center and catch a glimpse of Temecula’s history.

And before I forget directly on the other side of Kohls there are some Historic buildings as well. These buildings are in the process of restoration to create another amazing walk through history, similar to Old Town San Diego. Construction has begun on this site and I cannot wait until it is finished to take my little ones.

Geoffrey’s Birthday Club (Toys R’ Us)

image

Who doesn’t love freebies especially birthday freebies! Well Toys R’ Us has a really cool FREE Birthday Club. Geoffrey’s Birthday Club (the official name after Toys R’ Us mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe) gives kids some fun rewards to celebrate their special day.

About two weeks before your child’s birthday they will receive a birthday card in the mail. Any mail that is addressed to my kiddos makes them excited. In the card is a coupon that is for $5 off an item of $5 or more. That’s right the toy can be just $5 and they will take $5 off of it so you just end up paying tax! Oh and the coupon lasts for a couple months so it does not have to be used right away. The card also wishes your little one a Happy Birthday and tells them to be sure to stop by the store around their special day for some free goodies. When you go in the store for their birthday go to the customer service desk to receive their free crown and balloon. On your child’s actual birthday they will receive a call from Geoffrey himself wishing them a Happy Birthday! When you sign up for the Birthday Club you pick the best number to receive the call and the best time of day for when your child can answer it.

My kids love to receive their birthday goodies. Though my little one didn’t care too much about the crown he was way more into the balloon. Everyone in the store was so friendly as we walked around and wishing our birthday kiddo a Happy Birthday. And of course they love being able to pick out a new toy (and I love when I don’t have to spend much on a new toy).

We just redeemed my sons birthday club coupon and got his free crown and balloon since his birthday is coming very very soon.

We just redeemed my sons birthday club coupon and got his free crown and balloon since his birthday is coming very very soon.

Just a few more things about the birthday club:

  • This is only for children ages 1 to 10
  • It takes about 6 to 8 weeks for the enrollment process so be sure to give enough time before your child’s birthday
  • You can submit an enrollment form in store or online

So have fun celebrating your child’s special day!
