Well we are about half way through November so that means it’s time to get ready for Christmas. I know it seems a bit early but many of the Holiday season’s events are already starting. Just like Christmas Tree Lightings at many malls and other city locations. Some lightings also feature a very special guest that’s right the big man in the red suit himself, Santa! So here are some awesome tree lighting events to check out.

Riverside County

Temecula Promenade

Saturday November 21st

The fun begins at 6pm with pre-lighting activities. Santa will be making his debut at the mall during this event. There will be two large screens up so attendees can catch a clear view of the magic. The Shops at Dos Lagos

Saturday November 21st

Come early to enjoy a family fun screening of the Polar Express. The movie will be played for FREE at 10am in the Dos Lagos Luxury Theaters. Then in the evening enjoy a very special tree lighting event. There will be crafts, face painting, ballon artist and entertainment for kids to enjoy. Take a holiday trip out to Temecula’s Wineries for a fun family tree lighting event. Friday November 20th

So much fun is going on at the Santee Trolley Square from 5:30 to 8:30pm for the Tree Lighting Celebration. There will be games, crafts, carriage rides and snow! Don’t forget to visit Santa and get a photo taken with him. There is no cost to enter this event or for the crafts and games, only for select activities with prices ranging from $2 and up.

The Headquarters at Seaport District

Friday November 27th

Come celebrate the start of a three-week donation program to benefit active-duty military families. This special event is not only filled with fun but with the holiday spirit of giving. Enjoy FREE hot cocoa and treats. Visit and take a photo with Santa. Listen to the talented All American Boys Chorus perform for the Giving Tree Lighting celebration. Little Italy

Saturday December 5th

Downtown San Diego’s Little Italy transforms for the holiday season. The kick off for this is during the Tree Lighting and Christmas village event. Visitors on this day are treated to FREE Italian cookies, cider and coffee. Enjoy live music and entertainment. Keep a look out for St. Nick who be arriving on a fire engine (at 4:30pm).     Awesome Ice Skating Rinks

    Even though the holidays are now over and schools are getting back in session there are still many ways to keep the holiday fun going like with a day of ice skating. It is one of my daughters favorite holiday activities. There are many outdoor ice rinks that will still be up into the better part of February. And there are also numerous indoors rinks as well. It may not always feel like a typical winter here in Southern California but a few times around on the ice can make up for that. What’s great is how many ice rinks have made ways for even little ones to enjoy the fun. Below are some fun indoor and outdoor ice rinks to check out for yourselves.

    With the help of special “seals” beginning skaters and little ones can either ride on them around the ice or use them as a balance by pushing them whole they skate. So get the whole family out on the ice for some fun!

This beautiful outdoor rink will still be up until February 16th so there is still time to take the whole family out for a skate!

      This very fun outdoor rink is located next to the Happiest Place on Earth in Downtown Disney. Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink is apart of Disney’s Holiday time. The ice rink will be sticking around until February 22nd!

    The Mission Inn’s Festival of Lights

    Downtown Riverside will soon be all a glow from over 4 million holiday lights starting this Friday November 28th during the Mission Inn’s Festival of Lights. This is such a fun event to check out with your family. Ride down the streets in a horse drawn carriage. Or go for a skate on the ice rink. Stop in the many local shops for your holiday shopping. The Hotel will have a beautifully decorated Christmas tree in the lobby for all to see. Catch some snow fall in So-Cal and go get a special holiday photo with Santa.

    The Festival of Lights is an annual Downtown Riverside tradition and will be going on until January 6th, 2015. The first night of the Festival is this Friday the 28th. Many of the surrounding streets will be closed so plan your arrival accordingly and be sure to watch where you park for restrictions or parking fees. For directions and street closures click here.

    Menifee will be throwing quite a tree lighting celebration from 4:30 to 7:30pm on December 5th. There will be live entertainment and a outdoor holiday movie playing. As wells as a very fun Elves Ornament workshop where you can make a special holiday keepsake. Plus there will be a kids snow play zone!     Little Italy

    Saturday December 6th

    Downtown San Diego’s Little Italy transforms for the holiday season. The kick off for this is during the Tree Lighting and Christmas village event. Visitors on this day are treated to FREE Italian cookies, cider and coffee. Enjoy live music and entertainment. Keep a look out for St. Nick who be arriving on a fire engine (at 4:30pm). Watch the 25 foot tall Poinsettia Tree be lite up, you can also be apart of the tree by sponsoring a poinsettia plant. For more information visit littleitalysd.com

    All aboard!

    Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends are coming to the Orange Empire Railway Museum. Come and take a ride on the friendly engine or his mischievous pal Percy. Meet and have your picture taken with Sir Topham Hatt, the Superintendent of the Railroad. All this and so much more during Day out with Thomas.

    Thomas and his friends will be in the station starting November 8th and will be leaving the station on November 16th. So catch a ride before the fun departs. Your tickets grant you a ride on Thomas and his Pal Percy, each a 25 minute trip. There will be games, storytime, face painting, a petting zoo, bounce house, and live children’s music.     Felíz Día De Los Muertos

    Today and tomorrow are days of remembrance and celebration in honor of loved ones who are no longer with us in the Mexican culture. There are some great fun and simple ways to celebrate this holiday with your kiddos and to teach them about another cultures traditions. I’m always finding ways to make education fun with my kiddos. I found some great ideas on pinterest and some cool events. So here they and hope they help in your celebrations!

    Balboa Park Halloween Family Day

    Sunday October 26th is Halloween Family Day at Balboa Park. Many Museums and even the Zoo will be participating in this fun event. There will be creepy crafts, spooky storytelling, costume contests and parades, mini-carnival games and much more. Check out the Air and Space Museum’s annual rooftop pumpkin drop.     Old Town’s Fall Festival

    Head down to San Diego’s historic Old Town this Saturday October 25th for a fun Fall Festival. Come down from 12pm to 4pm and check out the kids crafts and activities. Many merchants will also have special activities going on. It’s also just a great chance to explore Old Town if you have never gone before. Old Town is not only filled with quant shops but also much history. The famous Whaley House is open for ghostly tours for anyone who is brave enough. There are many FREE historic buildings and houses to visit as well.

    Point Loma Nazarene University Fall Festival

    PLNU is hosting their annual Fall Festival this Saturday October 25th from 10am to 2:30pm. This is a FREE fun family event featuring crafts and activities for kids, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, face painting, carriage rides and much more. Don’t miss out on the live “Cinderella” show presented by the Point Loma Opera Theatre. The event will close with an Ice Cream Social and prize drawings.

    Sea World’s Halloween Spooktacular

    Not only is Sea World offering kids 9 and under FREE entrance with paid adult the whole month of October, there is also their Halloween Spooktacular going on. Halloween Spooktacular is going on every weekend until the end of October and is FREE with entrance. There is photo ops with wacky characters, silly spooky fun shows, and kids can come in their costumes to trick-or-treat throughout the park. Don’t forget to check out all the Kids Free deals being offered at Sea World as a part of Kidvasion.

    San Diego Zoo Beast Treats and More

    All October long the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park (located in Escondido) are offering kids ages 11 and under FREE admission. There is also some fun Halloween inspired fun going on at the Zoo every weekend this month. Guests are encouraged to look for special “Beast Treats” signs throughout the park to see some very special treats given to enrich the animals. Be sure to check out Dr. Zoolittle’s Gross, Icky, Yucky Bug Show Saturdays and Sundays at 12:30pm and 1:30pm. Or if you’re really brave why not spend the night amongst creepy critters with the Zoo’s Spooky Sleepover. The last Spooky Sleepover is only on October 25th, taking place from 4:00pm until 9:00am the cost is $139 per person. Kids Free to the Zoo is apart of Kidvasion happening all over San Diego this October.

    Museums all over San Diego are participating in Kids Free this October as a part of Kidvasion. Many of those Museums are located right in Balboa Park. Not only are kids free but there are also some great Halloween type themes going on throughout the museums going on for a limited time.     Frighteningly-Fun happening every weekend in October at Belmont Park. This is great Halloween fun for the whole family as Belmont Park has been transformed into Boomont Park.

    Pumpkin Express

    The Pumpkin Express is leaving the Station this weekend at The Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo. The Great Pumpkin is waiting to take you his pumpkin patch. Train fares range from $5-$15. Your ticket includes an hour long ride on the train, a tour of the Haunted Train, and each child gets to pick out their own pumpkin to decorate. There are three train departures a day, Pumpkin Express remaining dates are October 25th and 26th. Be sure to make your reservations ahead of time as departure times do tend to sell out.

    Brick-or-Treat at Legoland

    This is the last weekend to attend Legoland’s Brick-or-Treat with it’s Party Nights. My family had a great time at this event and you can read a full review with tips on how to make have a blast by clicking here. Brick-or-Treat’s last days are October 25th and 26th, with the Party Nights beginning at 5pm and ending with Fireworks at 9pm.  Bring your kids in their costumes to party and trick-or-treat through Legoland.     San Diego Botanic Garden
    Fall Festival

    Come check out the Family Fall Festival at the San Diego Botanic Garden this Saturday October 25th. The Festival is included with admission to the Botanic Garden. There is FREE entrance to the Garden and Festival for children 12 and under (they also are allowed FREE entrance to the Garden all the rest of Ocotber as a part of Kidvasion San Diego).  The Festival will feature a petting zoo,  crafts, hay wagon rides, costume parade, live entertainment, pumpkin carving and much more. The Garden already has two great children’s areas and is just a gorgeous place to take a day out to.

    Riverside Fall Safety Fair

    The Riverside Police Department is hosting a Fall Safety Fair this Saturday October 25th from 10am to 2pm in the Sam’s Club parking lot. The first 50 families will receive a FREE pumpkin. There will be carnival games, booths and demonstrations on safety from many local emergency response departments. Raceway Ford will also be conducting FREE test drives on a special closed course. For each test drive Raceway Ford will donate $20 to the Riverside Police Foundation.

    Downtown Ghost Walk

    The annual Ghost Walk returns to Riverside this weekend presented by California Riverside Ballet. This is a fun event for the whole family there is a cost of $15 per ticket for specialized ghost tours. There is six spooktacular tour options to choose from. Enjoy live music and entertainment, kids carnival games, food vendors and spooky souvenir stands. The fun starts Friday the 24th at 6pm and goes on until 10pm. Or check out the haunting fun on Saturday the 25th from 6pm to 11pm.

Come to the station and take a special ride on a trolley to the pumpkin patch where kids can pick and decorate their own pumpkin. In addition to the trolley ride there will be a bounce house, games, bubble wands, train decorating, storytelling and other child-sized train rides. Come dressed up in your costumes and enter the costume contest! The Pumpkin Train is in the station October 25th and 26th. Tickets range from $7-$18 and the trains and trolleys run from 10am to 4pm.

    Temecula Greek Festival

    Come celebrate Greece this weekend in Old Town Temecula at the Greek Festival. The Festival is on Saturday the 25th from 10am to 9pm and again on Sunday the 26th from 11am to 8pm. Admission is only $2 and children ages 12 and under are FREE! Enjoy live Greek music, authentic foods and drinks and there will be a special children’s game area. Plus a FREE door prize drawings.

    San Diego Kids Expo & Fair

    Head down to the Del Mar Fair Grounds this weekend for the San Diego Kids Expo and Fair. The Kids Expo & Fair is going on both Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm. Tickets to the Expo are $8 for Adults ( children 12 and under are FREE) and the ticket allows access to both dates. Parking is not included, standard parking at the Del Mar grounds is $10. The Expo & Fair will feature many business booths, live music with 4 entertainment stages, crafts and activities. Also there will be plenty of fun with outdoor attractions like zip lining, Euro Bungee, Tumble Gym Bus, and much much more. There is an additional cost for some attractions.

    Not-So-Scary Estuary at the San Elijo Lagoon

    Don’t forget the San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center is hosting a FREE Family Discovery Days event. Not-So-Scary Estuary is this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm. This is a great event for the whole family to enjoy.

    Children’s Lighthouse Fall Festival

    Children’s Lighthouse in Murrieta will be celebrating their Grand Opening this Saturday and also their 1st Annual Fall Festival. This is a FREE family event. There will be live entertainment, games, activities, face painting, crafts, goodie bags, and costume contest. As a bonus there will be a meet and greet with Junie B. Jones! The fun is from 10am to 3pm and will be held at Children’s Lighthouse Learning Center of Murrieta.

    The Murrieta Car Show will be going on this Saturday from 8am until 4pm. There will be plenty of vendors and Classics to view. The Car Show is FREE to check out and is located in Historic Downtown Murrieta.
